Blue Rose Code

  • Music

A nomad, both geographically and musically, Ross Wilson aka Blue Rose Code writes straight from – and to - the heart. His songs address universal themes of love, loss, travel, home, accepting the past and embracing the future in a deeply personal way. They are variously painted with the vibrant colours of folk, Americana, jazz, country, soul and pop; an eclecticism that has become a hallmark of his work and which has seen him compared to John Martyn, Van Morrison and Tom Waits amongst others.

A restless creative spirit, Wilson has spent the past few years producing four hugely acclaimed albums which have featured such luminaries as Ewan McGregor, Danny Thompson, The McCrary Sisters, Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis and Beth Nielsen Chapman.

His last record, 2017’s The Water Of Leith, has rightfully been praised to the rafters with The Skinny magazine naming it as their Scottish Album Of The Year. It was also nominated for both the SAY (Scottish Album Of The Year) Award and SAMA (Scottish Alternative Music Award).

Wilson's songwriting is fantastically varied, and as witty and knowing on the one hand as it can be heartbreaking and sentimental on the other.
