Malin Makes Music

Malin makes Music is the stage name of composer, bagpipe and fiddle player Malin Lewis. They are joined by acclaimed musicians Luc McNally (Bouzouki) and Sally Simpson (Fiddle). The music is inspired by everything they are exposed to in life. Most recently Malin has been studying folk music in Helsinki and learning the tradition of the extinct Finnish Bagpipes. This concert will be the debut of an exciting new direction for Malin makes Music. They will play a mixture of original compositions and traditional tunes from all across Europe.

Marit Fält and Rona Wilkie

Marit Fält and Rona Wilkie meld tunes and songs to create a new music that’s uplifting, daring and harmonious. They explore the similarities between Scandinavian and Scottish Highland tunes – colouring them with songs from both traditions. But this isn’t academia. Marit and Rona’s music is playful, borderless and thrilling. It glides from evocative near-classical movements through elegant polskas to buoyant reels, brought to life by Rona’s Gaelic singing, multi-personality fiddle virtuosity and Marit’s breath-taking
mastery of the versatile låtmandola. This duo are well known as virtuosic instrumentalists – Rona Wilkie is a winner of the BBC Young Traditional Musician and their debut album “Turas” was met to rave reviews. As such, they have striven to collaborate with musicians of all stripes, and have played across many genres – from playing with rappers to string quartets, from the Basque Country to the Balkans. They have also made a name for themselves as composers, having been commissioned to write for films and festivals.
