SONNET YOUTH AND COMPANY MANY present…
thick skin, elastic heart
by Drew Taylor
in association with Platform, Theatre Royal Dumfries and D&G Arts Live
thick skin, elastic heart is an exciting collection of contemporary spoken word monologues and group poems, giving voice to a generation that is frequently reduced to a sound-bite in mass media… Ineffectual, lazy, oversensitive “snowflakes”. This production puts Millennial voices to the front, in all their over-sharing glory. This is a hybrid poetic theatre production, played out like a frenzied scroll through a social media feed – with seemingly disconnected pieces running into one another at speed, woven together with athletic, physical delivery.
thick skin, elastic heart is a kaleidoscope of diverse voices from throughout the UK, as if Under Milk Wood (Dylan Thomas) had been written in modern society and filtered through Instagram. Our ensemble presents a darkly comedic text that punches hard, sobs loudly, continually digitally documents, embraces very warmly, and challenges poetry’s place in contemporary theatre.
The presentation features a special support slot from a local Spoken Word Artist.
