Due to COVID-19 The Ball is no longer going ahead as planned.
Following consultation and discussions with all partners we have taken the difficult decision of postponing The Coming Back Out Ball until later in the year. Your original ticket(s) for The Ball will remain valid and we will update you as soon as we can on the new date. However if you would like a refund or would like to cancel your ticket(s) please email the National Theatre of Scotland on [email protected] or call on 0141 227 9019 and we will arrange this.
A spectacular celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Gender Diverse, and Intersex elders.
Throughout 2019 LGBTI+ Elders Social Dance Clubs have been presented around the country for the whole rainbow community. These events will continue into 2020 and culminate in a spectacular social event: The Coming Back Out Ball
The Coming Back Out Ball is designed to be a gift – one that acknowledges the resilience of this community, a gift of visibility to LGBTI+ elders who have lived through it all, and a safe space for those elders just discovering themselves.
Your host will be Karen Dunbar, Scottish icon Horse will be accompanied by her band and other members from the LGBTI+ community, Dean Atta, the sensational performance poet, will perform, and the legendary Jo Clifford will be writing a piece inspired by the project, which she will perform live at the event.
Join us on what promises to be a night of real cultural significance, to sit alongside LGBTI+ elders to eat, drink, dance, reminisce and dream together into the future.
The Coming Back Out Ball has been successfully pioneered in Australia by arts company All The Queens Men to celebrate a generation of LGBTI+ people who have been discriminated against for years and who, according to recent findings, fear having to “return to the closet” as they get older.
This is the first time that this radical community focused project has been created and shared outside of Australia.
