The Eden Court Cinema Youth Board is excited to be collaborating with Take One Action Film Festival to put on a series of community film screenings across the Highlands.
Youth Board member Arlo chose the 2020 Korean/American film Minari for the first screening at Skye Bridge Studios this Saturday - here's why!

As part of our partnership with Take One Action Film Festival, I was tasked with programming a film that represents life in a rural community. Lee Isaac Chung’s heartwarming drama Minari is an absolute gem and fits the brief perfectly.
The film follows a Korean family who emigrate to a farm in Arkansas in hope of building a new life. Jacob (Steven Yeun) plans to support his family by selling Korean produce to vendors. However, the family face obstacles which threaten to destroy their dream and their family unit.
Inspired by the director's childhood memories of growing up on a farm, this relatable film tackles the many social issues of rural life - loneliness, isolation, mental health, faith and community. These issues bring a tangible depth to the film, helping the audience to understand the complex challenges the family experience.
Although Minari is an emotional film, it also has a lot of funny moments, especially where the family's grandmother Soonja is concerned. A brilliant character full of mischief, she brings light relief to the tenser moments and her complicated relationship with her grandson drives the plot.
No matter your age, I wholeheartedly recommend Minari. Don't miss your chance to see this beautifully shot and acted film - if you're around Kyle of Lochalsh this weekend, join us for the free screening!
Take One Action offers support and guidance to young programming groups throughout the country to help organise and deliver free community cinema screenings.
