Fiona Sellar studied piano, flute and voice at Aberdeen University graduating with B.Ed Music Hons in 1993. Since then she has been teaching Music in secondary school; she has been Principal Teacher of Music for over twenty years and Principal Teacher of Music/Art & Design for the last thirteen years. Fiona is currently Vice Chairperson of the Scottish Association for Music Education. She has been musical director for Just Sing and Singing For The Shy at Eden Court Theatre since 2011.
For over thirty five years, Fiona has been actively involved in bringing Music to the community in a diverse range of musical roles - piano accompanist; vocalist and instrumentalist with renaissance groups Coronach and Musick Fyne; keyboard/backing vocals with Scooty & The Skyhooks; church organist; musical director for Inverness Opera Company, The Florians and Dingwall Players; orchestral pianist with The Mahler Players.
Fiona is known locally for her work promoting world music in education, including a successful salsa band which has performed overseas. In 2007, she formed Highland’s first steel band which has performed locally as well as around Scotland.
In 2015 she was awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours for services to music, education and charity.
