Eden Court at 50 – An Evening with RSNO featuring Scottish Opera
We launched Eden Court's anniversary year celebrations with a bang on Saturday 4th of April, as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Scottish Opera returned to the Empire stage almost fifty years to the day since they helped open the building on 15th April 1976.
In a programme curated to honour the milestone, legendary American conductor Leonard Slatkin led the RSNO in the rarely-heard ‘Confluence’- a work composed by the late Highland-based composer William Wordsworth, commissioned specially for Eden Court's original 1976 opening gala. The evening also included Ravel's Don Quichotte à Dulcinée and Tzigane, followed by a triumphant closing performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.5 by the 70-strong orchestra.
