Eden Court Cinema Youth Board member Patton reviews Azur & Asmar: The Princes' Quest ahead of this month's free BFI Recommends film screening!

If you enjoy films that represent other cultures, Azur & Asmar: The Princes' Quest is the one for you. It is a beautiful story about friendship and family; with beautiful animation and an enchanting tale, what's not to love?
This film was first shared with me by one of my own friends who grew up with it. When I asked my friend why this film meant so much to him, he told me it holds a special place in his heart as one of those childhood films that stick with you.

I love the key message of this film. We have Azur and Asmar, two boys who grew up together as brothers before being split up due to their differing social classes. When they find each other again, they need to learn how to be brothers once more, making this a beautiful story of unconditional friendship and brotherhood.
Eastern and Western cultures blend together to emphasise how, despite our differences, we are all human with a natural instinct to care for each other. Such a message is powerful nowadays, and needed more than ever.
With that message of sharing cultures, I think it's quite special that I discovered this film thanks to my friend. He shared a piece of his home and culture with me, so now I've chosen to share the same film for this month's BFI Recommends screening - I hope everyone enjoys it!
BFI Recommends: Azur & Asmar: The Princes' Quest screens on Wed 30 Apr, free for 15 - 26 year olds.
