Eden Court Cinema Youth Board member Spike spreads some love for his pick for this month's BFI Recommends film screening!

I'll say it: Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise is one of the most iconic buddy films ever made. Written by Callie Khouri and released in 1991, it follows two women on a wild and risky journey that changes their lives. The film is exciting, emotional, and laced with messaging which makes it stand out to this day.
Thelma & Louise is so well-loved for its strong message about women and freedom - one of the reasons I chose it for this month's free screening. In many films, women are just there to support male characters, but they are the ones in charge in this film. The plot reflects how women have been treated by society and how they fight for their independence. It's all about friendship, courage, and breaking free from the rules put in place to hold them back.

The look and feel of the film is unforgettable. Ridley Scott, known for visually rich films like Blade Runner and Gladiator, makes the American landscapes feel huge and breathtaking. The open roads and deserts match the characters' search for freedom, while the action and drama keep the audience hooked.
I think the acting in this film is so powerful too, with amazing performances from Geena Davis as Thelma and Susan Sarandon as Louise. And, of course, there's Brad Pitt who, even though he doesn't appear for long, makes a big impact.
More than 30 years after its release, Thelma & Louise stands out for its bold story and powerful message. It's more than just an exciting film; it's about standing up for yourself, friendship, and breaking free from what's expected of you. That's why it remains a classic that people love and discuss today.
BFI Recommends: Thelma & Louise screens on Wed 26 Mar, free for 15 - 26 year olds.
