Eden Court's OneTouch Theatre is back in action this winter, as we present Stage on Screen: a wide selection of eye-popping productions on the big screen encompassing theatre, music, opera, ballet and exhibitions.
Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes
Theatre
The UK’s finest actors star in a range of dramas and provocative comedies from National Theatre Live. Andrew Scott spirals out of control in Noël Coward’s Present Laughter, international smash hit War Horse brings charging stallions to thrilling life and Phoebe Waller-Bridge writes and stars in the achingly funny Fleabag.
From the pen of Arthur Miller, the American dream is laid bare in All My Sons and A View From The Bridge. And the incomparable stage duo of Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart tread the boards together again in Harold Pinter’s No Man's Land.
Ballet
In ballet, the UK’s most exciting choreographer and director breathes new life into a film classic in Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes. Also challenging the notion that ballet is all pointe shoes and tutus, the Australian Ballet calls for rebellion in Spartacus and delivers a festive feast for the eyes in their interpretation of Cinderella.
If it’s the warm, magical glow of Christmas you’re after, The Royal Ballet presents The Nutcracker: Lev Ivanov's 1892 ballet combined with Tchaikovsky's sumptuous, iconic score.

Opera
From the spectacular stage sets of the Bregenz lake we present Giuseppe Verdi’s beautiful and blood-curdling tale of sacrifice and revenge in Rigoletto on the Lake. Then passion, destiny and obsession collide in Carmen on the Lake, designed by British artist Es Devlin.
From the Metropolitan Opera, Puccini’s thriller of Napoleonic Rome Tosca (from Sir David McVicar’s bold 2018 staging) and Julie Taymor’s enchanting 2006 production of The Magic Flute.
And straight from the birthplace of waltz and operetta, Jonas Kaufmann My Vienna is a deeply personal tribute by the star tenor to a popular selection of world-famous Viennese melodies.
Musicals
Show-stopping musical offerings spring forth from the dynamite vocal pairing of Michael Ball & Alfie Boe: Back Together, hot on the heels of their star turns in the West End’s phenomenally successful staged concert of Les Misérables.
Also strutting onto the big screen from the heart of the West End, we also have Kinky Boots: The Musical (which had us at ‘music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper’).
Music + Art
As the UK slowly emerged from lockdown in June 2020, Idiot Prayer - Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace was recorded as a reaction to the confinement and isolation of the preceding months. Initially imagined as an online only event, fans can now see the beguiling and hauntingly beautiful concert film in cinemas as an extended cut featuring four unseen performances.
Exhibition on Screen returns with the highly anticipated film Frida Kahlo, combining interviews, commentary and a detailed exploration of her art, highlighting the source of her feverish creativity, her resilience, and her unmatched lust for life, politics, men and women.
Masks continue to be mandatory at our cinema screenings, social distancing is in place and our building is as safe as we can make it. So join us in the OneTouch Theatre this winter for an intoxicating blend of high drama, jaw-dropping spectacle and heart-warming festive fun!
