Our bustling Engagement department is about to deliver participants' work on Eden Court stages, as well as launching summer activities. Engagement Programme Co-ordinator Morag Russell has the full update...
I’m so glad to be writing a blog that encompasses a great range of activities for everyone to be taking part in here at Eden Court over the summer. I’m sure we’ve all been enjoying the taster of summer we’ve hopefully got in store and I trust you’ll all manage to squeeze in a pizza outdoors here with our new pizza oven shack? I think we can all agree we deserve to enjoy a great summer after the last 2 years too!
We kick off the start of the summer season in the Engagement Team with our studio programme showcase week. This Mon 20 June we have our I Heart Drama participants performing a devised piece titled Adventures Through Time.
Later in the week our Eden Court Collective group, for Highland creatives aged 18-30, perform Collective Cuts, which will also be tied in with some short film clips from our Youth Film and CashBack groups. Rounding off the week, will be a Triple Bill on the Thursday evening from our Youth Theatre 14-18 years with “Stop The Bus”, our Youth Dance 9-12 with “Sing Sing Sing” and Youth Dance 13-18 years with their performance of “Strive|Defeat”. On this evening we will also showcase some more film clips from our Youth Film groups.
Come along and support our talented young people and if you’re interested in joining one of our classes next term, what better way to see what you could be working towards? We are delighted to say that all of these performances are on a pay what you can pricing option of £0, £4, £8 or £12.
On Tue 21 May, we are welcoming our friends for The Buzz Project in Lochaber with their music bus. They’ll be based outside of Eden Court from 12pm – 4pm and young people can come along and try various instruments and music equipment as part of Make Music Day.
We’re delighted to be more sustainable than ever at this year’s Under Canvas as we hold ourselves accountable for our actions in the face of the climate crisis. We are committing to increasing energy efficiency and reducing waste materials in the pursuit of creating an economic, efficient and environmentally just workplace and venue. We want to bring our audiences and participants with us on this journey. During the holidays, younger children can sign up to our Climate Arts Club for 5-12 years. This can be booked on a day by day basis or full block booking over 4 weeks of the holidays. Here we will dance, cook, craft and more while learning how to be as sustainable as possible. For adults, we will have a Summer Just Dance group open to all abilities and levels to try ahead of hopefully starting as a permanent class in August. And do we dare to dream of a return trip to Belladrum this year?! …. 15 - 21 year olds - watch this space!
When the holidays wind down I’m personally excited to meet our new class of 2022/23 for our SQA courses as they come for an intensive week to kick off their year studying with us. We are fortunate to deliver qualifications in dance, drama and film and the quality of work they produce is always incredible – no pressure folks! Watch this space too for our August - November studio programme going on sale with new classes, new tutors and new opportunities!
Lastly, I hope you enjoy your summer with whatever you have planned and we hope to see you here soon!
