This Autumn, join us as we fully reopen the Empire Theatre with a packed programme that has something for everyone!
Major productions on stage include 9 - 5, Chicago, The Midnight Bell and the triumphant return of the Pantomime in time for Christmas.
We are now open 7 days a week for the first time since first closing in March 2020. The return to being fully open and welcoming live performance back to our stages is a significant moment for us, following the immense challenges that the global pandemic has brought.
A thrilling season of dance, drama, musical theatre, ballet and more awaits!
With an Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-nominated score by the Queen of Country herself, Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5: The Musical finally reaches Inverness, direct from the West End. Matthew Bourne’s The Midnight Bell explores the dazzling underbelly of 1930’s London life in a dance theatre event full of pathos, humour and thwarted romance. Chicago dives into the decadent 1920’s, with a sexy, sassy score delivering murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery and treachery, with one show-stopping song after another and choreography by the legendary Bob Fosse.
After a very sizeable hole in last year’s festive events calendar, Eden Court’s beloved Pantomime also returns with audience favourites Steven Wren and Ross Allan promising audiences a Cinderella packed full of side-splitting slapstick as well as all the other ingredients that make a fun family panto - breath-taking costumes, stunning special effects and fabulous song and dance routines.
We also host major new productions from Scotland’s world-class national companies. National Theatre of Scotland’s The Enemy is a radical re-imagining of the classic Henrik Ibsen play about truth, power and deception from Kieran Hurley, the award-winning playwright and screenwriter of the critically acclaimed Scottish indie film Beats. Supported by Scottish Opera’s ‘Play A Supporting Role’ Appeal, The Gondoliers sees Stuart Maunder, Artistic Director at State Opera South Australia, team up with designer Dick Bird (The Mikado 2016) to stage a production that is fast, furious and full of fun. Scottish Ballet returns with two enchanting productions; in September we have the Gene Kelly-choreographed Starstruck immersed in 1960’s Paris and this winter audiences are invited to enter a magical world with sumptuous family favourite The Nutcracker.
Beyond the Autumn season, we bring you more smash hit stage productions for early 2022. In February, we'll unleash for you one of the most terrifying monsters from the horror canon – the Headless Horseman – in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, lose yourself in a city and a time where the dreams are as big as the hair with Rock of Ages or do the time warp (again) in Richard O’Brien’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll musical, The Rocky Horror Show.
