Paul MacDonald-Taylor, Eden Court’s Head of Film + Visual Art, introduces our new cinema programme for May.
May generally marks the moment when I begin to programme the Inverness Film Festival in earnest so it’s a nice coincidence that The Blue Caftan, my favourite film of the festival last year (and the runner up in your voting for the Audience Award) is back on our screens. It is the second film from Moroccan director Maryam Touzani (we also screened her first film Adam at the festival in 2021), which is the most heartfelt and loving film that I’ve seen for a long time. I cannot wait to see it again.
Like almost everyone I love Keanu Reeves - a man that is impossible to dislike. Point Break is my favourite film so I’m always on the lookout for what he is up to on the big screen, and you don’t have to look too far as one of the biggest films of the year is popping up at Eden Court for a weekend – John Wick: Chapter 4.
People are running around, doing fun action things with one another again but this time with Asian superstar Donnie Yen, all leading up to a spectacular action sequence on the steps of the Sacré-Coeur. A more fun time at the cinema you may not have for quite a while or, to be precise, for around three weeks before we show the new French version of the original swashbuckling trio and their young friend; The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan. I loved ‘Dogtanian’ and wish I had read the Alexandre Dumas novel when I was 10 and not when I was 30, as it would have flared my youthful imagination.
I’m off to get my Rapier and find out what Cardinal Richelieu is up to!
It’s going to be a fun month at Eden Court cinema, please do let me know what you’re enjoying on the big screen.
