Jenny has been supporting the Highland Council since we shut our doors a few weeks ago.
We caught up with her this week to find out what she does at Eden Court, her experiences of supporting the Highland Council and what’s she’s been doing to keep herself busy during the lockdown.
I work in the Front of House Team at Eden Court which is part of the massive Visitor Experience Team. I can honestly say that I love working at Eden Court. My job is looking after the welfare of our customers who are accessing the theatre and building for whatever reason and so I get to meet lots of interesting people from all over the Highlands and beyond. I also get to work with the most amazing group of people, who I am really missing at the moment.
I am part of a group of Eden Court staff who have been redeployed to Highland Council to help with the council hotline. It was a quick process as things moved quickly the week of the theatre shutting and the hotline going live. We had training at the Highland Council HQ, scripts to learn for the hotline and we had to get our phone line connected at home.
I have to say I was really nervous - ask me the best place to sit in the Empire Theatre or how to find Studio Two and I can handle that but what I was about to do was really out of my comfort zone. Luckily for me there was an amazing group of people behind the scenes getting things in place and supporting me.
When the phones went live the hotline was inundated with calls for people and organisations wanting to be put forward to help. The hotline team found the people and groups coming forward an experience we had not anticipated and it was so heart-warming. Our favourite was an 85-year-old women who wanted her name to be put forward to volunteer as she is able to collect and deliver parcels. The hotline team was so touched by the Highland community - being part of that initial stage was a real honour.
Working from home has been a new experience and I am finding that it has its plus sides but one of the down sizes is the kitchen is just a bit too handy for a coffee. I’m enjoying spending time with my husband and 2 of my 3 children and our 18 year old golden retriever. I have been using this time to do some baking, walking, gardening, reading and serious cleaning.
I can’t wait till I can go back to swimming.
