We're so happy to welcome Louise Marshall back after a break earlier this year. Since she's been back, she has been really keen to write a blog to tell everyone about the exciting workshops, classes and events that are coming up - we'll pass you over to Louise for more information.
A few weeks ago Anika Rice told audiences how much joy she was experiencing through participating in Strictly Come Dancing and that it “was all about how [dance] makes you feel.” I couldn’t agree more!
I’m delighted to be back at work after a six-month break earlier in the year. It is a complete joy to be back in the studio, rediscovering movement and dance, and what my body is capable of doing. I cried when I successfully did a cartwheel again.
And the best part of my job is being able to share this joy when I’m teaching and leading classes. The great news is that as well as the regular weekly classes (check out the website) there are some great projects lined up:
Groam House Project
We’re looking for adult dancers to participate in this project which will be creating a dance piece based on Celtic art and knotwork, utilising the George Bain collection at the Groam House museum. The performance is on 14 November, with rehearsals taking place on Mondays 8.30pm-9.30pm! The Youth Dance Group will also be involved in this project.
Travellers
The theme of next year’s Eden Court Dance Showcase is journeys and travelling. Pretty much all the dance classes will be participating. Rehearsals will start in November and December for an adult performance group to start devising material for a piece for this production, again on Monday evenings.
If you would like to be involved in either of these projects please email me.
In Your Shoes
In Your Shoes is an inter-generational project that will be taking place in four locations across the Highlands. Young people will be getting together to dance and move, and to talk about memories of dancing and what dance means to them.
The project is taking place in Nairn, Tain, Kingussie and Wick. Please email if you’d like more information. We’ll be looking for young people who would like to participate in each area.
Hope I see you in a class very soon!
