THANK YOU FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS, THIS CALL FOR ARTISTS IS NOW CLOSED.
We are looking for artists to perform at our flagship outdoor summer festival, which is back for 39 days of live music and performance from Wed 5 Jul - Sat 26 Aug.
Now in its fifth year, Under Canvas is the Highland’s premiere live trad music festival. A family-friendly event, the line-up features Scottish traditional music, performance and DJ sets, and a pop-up bar serving wood-fired pizza and local beers, gins and whisky.
15,000 people attended 42 days of Under Canvas in 2022, during which time we provided paid employment to 232 Highland artists.
Contemporary folk and traditional Scottish music are at the heart of Under Canvas, making up around 60% of all performance opportunities for artists. There will also be acoustic, jazz, indie, world music and DJ sessions.
Last summer’s trad line-up included Norrie MacIver, Gary Innes and Ewen Henderson, as well as 2023 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award Finalists Ailis Sutherland and Mairi McGillivray. Project Smok and Valtos provided some neo-trad representation while local Inverness DJ Karawane held a weekend world music residency.
Bogha-frois, a community of queer folk musicians including Malin Lewis, Laura Wilkie and Pedro Cameron (Man of the Minch), also presented new pieces commissioned by Eden Court which represent queer voices in Scotland. This year’s festival will feature its own series of special events, with more information becoming available on our website in the coming weeks.
Submissions are now open to acts and bands who have not played at Under Canvas before. Follow the link below to find out what we're looking for and apply.
