Grace Morton
she/herBùth-obrach Drama TutorGrace is a song-writer, writer and freelance workshop facilitator from the Isle of Skye. She is a fluent Gaelic speaker and passionate about the delivery of arts education through the medium of Gaelic.
Grace spent her school years being fully embraced by the creative opportunities provided by Fèis and drama/music tutors who came to her small school. Music, acting and creating was as much a part of the curriculum in North Skye than anything else. Grace moved to Glasgow to complete studies in Philosophy. While doing so she was swept up and enamoured by Glasgow’s Gaelic creative and traditional music scene. She soon found herself reconnecting with her roots through working for Feis’ across Scotland and teaching Gaelic songs in schools.
In collaboration with visual artist Elvey Anna Stedman, Grace and Elvey cofounded ‘NKM (North Kelvin Meadow) Creativity Workshops’ in their local community woodland. These free workshops focus on encouraging the use of creativity as an end in itself - honouring the practice rather than the product, through experimenting with different creative outlets/tools (i.e. poetry writing, cyanotype making, psychogeography, foraging, sculptor). Grace and Elvey have since expanded to facilitate their workshop whilst on a collaborative artist residency on the Isle of Skye and at festivals.
Grace’s primary craft for the past few years has been song-writing and performing either solo or with her band. She has performed at the likes of Celtic Connections, Skyelive and Under Canvas in years gone by. More recently, she has entered into the rich world of Gaelic drama - having worked with Fèisean nan Gaidheal as both a touring actor and drama tutor.
Grace is passionate about holding creative spaces that inspire self-confidence, and that value the joy and sense of community that comes from expressing oneself in a safe space.
