Jenny Sturgeon & Alice Allen

Singer-songwriter Jenny Sturgeon and cellist Alice Allen have built a quietly compelling creative partnership over the years, one rooted in shared sensibilities and a deep responsiveness to landscape, story, and sound. Jenny's distinctive songwriting voice alongside Alice's richly textured cello playing creates music that feels both intimate and expansive, weaving instrumental nuance with evocative lyricism. Their collaborations carry a particular magic: a sense of conversation rather than accompaniment, where melody and mood evolve organically between them. This summer, at Under the Canvas, offers a rare chance to experience that connection live. Jenny Sturgeon is an award winning singer-songwriter whose music collaborations include writing and performing in the critically acclaimed alt-folk band Salt House and in the bird and kitchen-disco inspired band, Birdvox. Her music has been played on BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio 2, BBC Scotland, Radio 3 and Radio 4, including being featured on BBC Radio 4 Front Row. Alice Allen is a versatile cellist known for her expressive, genre-crossing approach; blending classical training with folk and improvisation. Alice performs in dynamic trio Lyre and in highly regarded duo Strathspey Queens, with fiddler Patsy Reid. A sought-after collaborator, she brings depth, sensitivity, and a distinctive voice to every project.
