Last week Eden Court Friend John Anderson went to watch Balloon and has written a lovely blog on the film and being a Friend. Take some time out with a cup of tea or coffee and have a read:
I have been a Friend for some ten years and have enjoyed the link on many occasions, including attending the members’ Film & Coffee Mornings. I also make a regular monthly donation to help support arts engagement for young people as pressure on budgets means funding for this vitally important activity has been reduced.
I make it to most of the Friends Film & Coffee Mornings. I can’t say that I have always come home wanting to buy the DVD, but this is to be expected as much depends on all sorts of things on the day in addition to what has been chosen for us. Notable films have included The Imitation Game, The Railway Man and The Book Shop, the latter being an unexpected Plus Plus.
I have a preference for films based on something which actually happened, as was the recent Balloon offering. Balloon was gripping stuff from start to finish as families sought to escape from East Germany to the West. As it happened I was in Bavaria the day when ‘The Wall’ came down and our tour guide went ballistic with joy!
The coffee (and scones) mornings always make for the perfect start, especially if this includes meeting up with a particular friend which in our case includes shared travel time to exchange news. We also enjoy Cullen Skink soup in the restaurant before leaving for home, which nicely rounds off the day out.
Our next Film & Coffee Morning is on Monday 5 August at 10.30am and this month we'll be showing Robert the Bruce.
Become a Friend and enjoy all that Eden Court has to offer including world class theatre, an amazing film programme, classes for everyone and our popular riverside restaurant and cafe bar.
